Out of my comfort zone!
The end of our summer stay in Italy is near and so is the start of the Art Fair season in The Netherlands. A logical step towards higher visibility; Artfairs! Even though that means stepping into the spotlight and out of my comfort zone!
There are a lot of them and to participate is not cheap, so research is necessary to be able to make the right choices. What is the quality of the participants' work? For what audience is it meant? Is there a selection committee? What do the booths look like? What are the costs? Publicity, location, accessibility, etc? All giving interesting information to help me make the right choices. What do I want to accomplish by participating? To sell existing work? To meet people from the art community? To get new commissions? To develop the public's knowledge of my art? Many things to be considered…
So, here it is, my choice for this coming Fair season:
- Nationale Kunstdagen, Beursgebouw Nieuwegein; 9, 10 November 2019. Anniversary year (tenth edition) of this Art Fair and kick-off for the Nationale Kunstweek of which the upcoming Open Studio weekend is a part of. Together with several fellow artists I will join the booth of the NABK. www.kunstdagen.nl
- Landelijk Atelierweekend, Open Studio Westelbeers; 16 and 17 November 2019. In the whole of The Netherlands participating studios will open their doors for visitors. www.landelijkatelierweekend.nl
- EuropArtFair 2019, Westergasfabriek Amsterdam; 6, 7, 8 December 2019. Second edition of this International Art Fair for professional artists. I will be at Booth 91. www.europartfair.nl
- Brabant Art Fair 2020, Grote Kerk Breda; 14, 15 March 2020. Fourth edition of this prestigious Art Fair in Breda's most important monument, the Grote Kerk. You will find me left of the entrance at Booth 53. www.brabantartfair.nl
I will bring my most recent work to these Art Fairs, the last series of portraits with the playful Graffiti and Acrylic backgrounds that I have been working on since the end of 2018. Some of them I have displayed this summer in Italy at Cantina Terracruda in Fratterosa and the response was very positive. I am curious as to what the Dutch audience will think of them!
Please do come to my studio and visit one of these Art Fairs, all three of them are really worth the visit! Hope to see you there!
