This painting is inspired by a photo of the model Tikyana. She is getting ready for the photo and rearranges her denim skirt to look neat. These kinds of pure, unposed photos are exactly what I’m looking for for my paintings where I try to capture the person behind the pose! I made this painting shortly after a trip to Aruba, where I saw many murals. Afterwards I discovered that that’s where I got the idea for my color palette from the background (see detail photo). This is how unconscious it can work with inspiration!
